The Apt region's clays have been famous for centuries. But extracting them is not enough. It is only by our choice of the best veins in the quarries and by skilful mixing of the different clays that we can obtain the various tonalities (bright pink or red paste) witch make the originality and the quality of "Carreaux d'Apt". Obediant, docile and submissive clay is hand-worked and cut with a wire on a sand bed.

This is the oldest method... the longest, the most laborious; it is ours : VERNIN has exclusive rights. Methods which have remained unchanged for centuries.

Once shaped, the tiles dry in the Vauclusian sun. After 16 hours of firing, 48 hours of cooling are necessary before the tiles are taken out of the kilns and stored by hand.

EARTH (clay), WATER (filtering, mixing), AIR (drying), FIRE (firing).
Our terracotta tiles offer a great resistance to shocks, to repeated comings and goings, to stampings and are guaranteed against frost.

Tradition respects the ancient rules : the manufacturing is still done in the style of a cottage industry.

Man's hand models tiles "à l'ancienne" where irregularity of grain and aspect gives a form of life, a softness and matchless character which enables the Vernin tiles to be used in the restoration of historical monuments (Stag's bedroom - Palais des Papes in Avignon, Castle of Lourmarin, Castle of Barroux...)
